Programs and services include an emergency shelter that can house up to 8 families or 21 individuals, a 24-hour crisis hotline, comprehensive children’s services, support groups, individual counseling, legal advocacy, community outreach and educational programs.
Scope of Service
For more than 35 years, RESPOND has expanded its partnerships and internal resources to address emerging community needs. Through new outreach, training and hotline initiatives, RESPOND has reached across city and state boundaries to develop a national and statewide presence among domestic violence service providers. RESPOND continues to broaden the scope of initiatives against violence to include undeserved populations including people of all ages, races, religions, genders, immigrations status and transgendered individuals. Currently, all services are available in Spanish, English, Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole and French.
Service Area
RESPOND has offices in Somerville and serves Everett, Melrose, Medford, North Reading, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, Winchester and Woburn, Massachusetts. RESPOND often provides services to survivors who reside outside these towns. The agency also conducts outreach and preventative educational programs across the region, state and U.S.
Who We Serve
Each year, RESPOND serves thousands of individuals each year regardless of age, race, gender, religion, ability, sexual preference or any other characteristic. Since its inception in 1974, RESPOND has assisted over 95,000 survivors and members of the community. All survivors of domestic violence are welcome to seek refuge, help and support at RESPOND.
